Chelsea Thump Tottenham to Reach League Cup Final
Chelsea have secured their spot in the Carabao Cup final after a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, 12 January.
The sole goal of the evening occured 18 minutes into the match when Antonio Rudiger headed one past Spurs’ ‘keeper and skipper, Hugo Lloris, giving the Blues the lead.
Indeed, Lady Luck was clearly playing for Thomas Tuchel’s team as Tottenham were awarded two penalties by referee Andre Marriner, both of which were overturned by Video Assistant Referee Mike Dean.
To add to the home-side’s woes, Dean handed Chelsea the match at the 64th-minute mark by disqualifying Harry Kane’s goal for being offside.
Tuchel recognised how fortunate his side were in a post-match interview, saying: “We had big chances and controlled the match, but I had the feeling we played with fire … We allowed chances from sloppy mistakes and were lucky.”
With the win and a 3-0 aggregate, the Blues have cemented their appearance at Wembley Stadium for the League Cup finals. Now the question is: will they face Liverpool or Arsenal? We will find out when both teams clash tonight at Anfield.
